Feature Article: Two major finance-related items were up for debate this week - a plan to sell bonds to ordinary Albertans, and a contentious proposal that would see the province create an auditor to check on municipal governments. (Legislature committee on community services [the committee that is reviewing a bill to create a municipal auditor general], AUMA comments on proposal for municipal auditor general, Bill 202)
Also in this week's edition:
- The PC leadership review vote will probably leave Premier Ed Stelmach in place, but will come with a catch. (Ted Morton warns against voting for a PC leadership review, Jim Dinning's warning on a leadership review)
- Industrial power users don't like controversial legislation on new transmission lines (Bill 50) but still hope for amendments that would make it more palatable to them. (Industrial Power Consumers Association of Alberta white paper on transmission, PDF, 840 KB)
- The old health regions kept their direct spending under better control than their spending on contracts.

- The Wildrose Alliance promises to use the Internet to talk to Albertans; the Conservative government gets there first.

- A Conservative MLA has made his personal decision on nuclear power while the government is still developing its final say.
